Metal fixed braces are the conventional fixed braces which can be used to treat the majority of alignment and bite problems in all age groups. Tooth coloured braces work extermely well and are very discrete. Miniscrews are very useful in certain cases where the tooth movements are more complex.
Removable braces are usually made of moulded plastic that fit in the roof of the mouth and clip on to the teeth. They are very limited in the amount of tooth movement that they can achieve. Removable braces are often used in young and sometimes adult patients to help with bite correction. Invisalign braces are are a type of removable braces useful in treating mild discrepancies in tooth alignment
Functional braces are used in growing patients usually at 11-13 years of age to correct protrusion of the upper front teeth.
Headgear is often used in growing patients to help correct the bite usually worn at night.
